UNDERSTANDING INVISALIGN
What Is Invisalign?
Teeth do not always grow in perfectly straight lines. Genetics play a big role, but crowding, spacing, bite issues and misalignment can also develop during childhood as the jaw grows, or later in life as teeth naturally shift over time. For many people, misaligned teeth have a direct impact on their confidence, but they can also make cleaning more difficult, lead to uneven wear, cause jaw pain and affect oral health.
Invisalign works by using a series of custom-made clear aligners, each worn for approximately one to two weeks, that gradually and gently move your teeth into the correct position. Unlike fixed braces, they are virtually invisible, completely removable and far more hygienic.
From your very first visit, we use advanced 3D scanning technology to show you a digital preview of your final result. Treatment takes between 6 and 18 months depending on the complexity of your case with regular appointments to monitor your progress. At the end of the treatment, a custom retainer is included to hold your teeth in their new position permanently, so your results last for life.
- Full orthodontic assessment and digital 3D scanning
- Personalised treatment plan with a preview of your final result
- Regular monitoring appointments
- Retainer included at the end of treatment
- Complimentary whitening kit

Is Invisalign Right For Me?
Determining whether Invisalign is the ideal solution for your orthodontic needs involves considering a variety of factors. Invisalign clear aligners are designed to be discreet, comfortable, and convenient, making them an excellent choice for many individuals seeking to improve their smiles.
Advantages of Invisalign:
- Discreet Appearance: Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible, making them a great option if you want to maintain a natural appearance without metal brackets and wires.
- Comfort: Made from smooth, flexible plastic, Invisalign is less likely to cause irritation compared to traditional braces.
- Convenience: The aligners are removable, allowing you to eat, drink, brush, and floss with ease.
Ideal Candidates:
- Busy Professionals and Students: If maintaining a polished, professional appearance is important to you, Invisalign offers a subtle way to correct orthodontic issues without drawing attention.
- Active Lifestyles: If you're engaged in sports or other physical activities, the removability of Invisalign aligners can be particularly advantageous, reducing the risk of injury and making protective gear easier to use.
- Those Seeking Comfort: Invisalign is designed to be worn comfortably throughout the day and night, minimizing the inconvenience often associated with traditional braces.
Consultation and Customization:
A comprehensive consultation with your orthodontist will assess your specific needs. During this consultation, all options will be discussed, ensuring you have enough information to make an informed decision.
What are the benefits of Invisalign clear braces over traditional braces?
Invisalign offers several benefits over traditional braces, including:
- Aesthetic Appeal: The aligners are clear and nearly invisible.
- Comfort: They are made of smooth plastic, reducing the likelihood of irritation.
- Convenience: They can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.
- Predictability: The treatment plan is mapped out digitally, providing a clear timeline of results.
Is Invisalign suitable for everyone?
Invisalign is suitable for most teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth. However, it may not be the best option for severe orthodontic cases. A consultation with our dentist can determine if Invisalign is right for you.
Does insurance cover Invisalign treatment in London?
Many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign just like they would other orthodontic treatments such as braces. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your coverage and benefits.
Will Invisalign affect my speech?
You may experience a slight lisp for a few days as you get used to wearing Invisalign aligners. However, most patients find that their speech returns to normal quickly.
How many hours per day do I need to wear my Invisalign aligners?
For the best results, you should wear your Invisalign clear aligners for 22 hours a day, removing them only for eating, drinking (anything other than water), brushing, and flossing.
Can I eat and drink with my Invisalign aligners in?
You should remove your Invisalign aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water to avoid staining and damaging them. Always brush and floss your teeth before putting your clear aligners back in to maintain good oral hygiene.
How do I clean my Invisalign aligners?
Clean your Invisalign aligners by rinsing them with cold water and using a soft toothbrush to gently scrub away any debris. Avoid using hot water as it can warp the plastic. Special Invisalign cleaning kits are also available for thorough cleaning.
How often do I need to visit the dentist during my Invisalign treatment?
You will need to visit our clinic approximately every 6 to 8 weeks so we can monitor your progress and provide you with your next set of clear aligners.
What are Invisalign Attachments?
Invisalign attachments are tiny, tooth-coloured additions that are bonded to your teeth. These strategic little helpers look like small buttons and are key to making sure your Invisalign aligners work effectively.
Why are they important?
- Aesthetic Appeal: The aligners are clear and nearly invisible.
- Comfort: They are made of smooth plastic, reducing the likelihood of irritation.
- Convenience: They can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing.
- Predictability: The treatment plan is mapped out digitally, providing a clear timeline of results.
In short, Invisalign attachments are small but mighty elements of your orthodontic treatment, enhancing the predictability and success of your smile transformation.
Will attachments be visible?
Attachments are made from a tooth-coloured material that blends in with your teeth, making them less noticeable. However, they can be slightly visible, especially if you look closely.
How are attachments applied and removed?
Attachments are applied using a simple procedure where the dental composite is bonded to the surface of your teeth. They are removed at the end of the Invisalign treatment by your dentist, using a process that does not damage your teeth.
How long will I need to have attachments on my teeth?
The duration for which you will need attachments varies depending on your specific treatment plan. Your dentist will provide you with a timeline and let you know when the attachments will be removed.
What should I do if an attachment falls off?
If an attachment falls off, contact your dentist as soon as possible to have it reattached. Continuing your treatment without the attachment can affect the effectiveness of your aligners.
How do I clean my teeth with attachments?
Cleaning your teeth with attachments is similar to your regular oral hygiene routine. Brush and floss your teeth as usual, ensuring you clean around the attachments thoroughly to prevent plaque buildup.
What is IPR (Interproximal Reduction)?
Interproximal Reduction (IPR) is a dental procedure used during orthodontic treatments to create space between teeth. This involves gently polishing the sides of the teeth to remove a small amount of enamel, allowing teeth to move more freely and align properly.
Is IPR safe?
Yes, IPR is a safe and common procedure. Only a minimal amount of enamel is removed, and the process is carefully controlled to avoid any damage to the teeth.
What happens after Invisalign treatment?
After completing your Invisalign treatment, you will need to wear retainers to maintain your new smile. Retainers help prevent your teeth from gradually shifting back to their original position.
What are Invisalign additional aligners?
Invisalign additional aligners, also known as refinement aligners, are extra sets of aligners provided to patients who require further adjustments after the initial course of treatment. Despite the precision of the initial treatment plan, teeth might not move as expected, or additional movements might be needed to achieve the desired outcome. These refinement aligners help fine-tune the positioning of the teeth to ensure optimal results.
Is Invisalign available through NHS?
No, Invisalign is not available through the National Health Service (NHS) as it is classified under cosmetic treatments. Although you can't get Invisalign on the NHS, many people choose this option for its nearly invisible appearance and comfortable fit. Investing in Invisalign can lead to significant improvements in both oral health and self-esteem.
How Long Do You Need to Wear Retainers After Finishing Invisalign Treatment?
Completing Invisalign treatment is a significant step, but wearing retainers afterward is crucial to maintain your results. Initially, you will need to wear your retainers consistently, usually for several months to a year. This phase is vital to ensure your teeth settle into their new positions.
However, wearing retainers isn't just a short-term commitment. Orthodontists generally recommend wearing them most nights after completion. This long-term use is essential to keep your teeth stable and prevent them from shifting back.
By faithfully wearing your retainers as instructed, you can greatly reduce the risk of needing further orthodontic treatments in the future. Consistent retainer use is your best bet for preserving that perfect smile.
How Can I maintain Results After Completing my Invisalign Treatment?
- Wear Your Retainers as Prescribed: Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, you'll receive custom-made retainers. These must be worn every night while you sleep to help maintain your newly straightened teeth.
- Follow-Up Appointments: Regular check-ups are crucial. Schedule follow-up appointments with your orthodontist to ensure everything remains aligned and to address any concerns promptly.
- Good Oral Hygiene: Maintain excellent oral hygiene practices. Brushing and flossing daily will not only keep your teeth healthy but will also help in preserving the results of your treatment.
- Avoid Harmful Habits: Be mindful of habits that could shift your teeth out of alignment, such as nail-biting, chewing on pens, or using your teeth as tools for opening packages.
By adhering to these steps, you can enjoy long-lasting results from your Invisalign treatment. Remember, consistency is key.
