UNDERSTANDING DENTAL BRIDGES

What is a Dental
Bridge?

A dental bridge is recommended when one or more teeth are missing and need to be permanently replaced. A missing tooth can feel very unsightly and make chewing uncomfortable. Without replacement, surrounding teeth will begin to shift out of alignment, affecting your facial structure and overall oral health.
A dental bridge is one of the most trusted and effective solutions to fill that gap. It's one or more artificial teeth, known as pontics, held in place by crowns fixed onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The result is a permanent, non-removable restoration that looks, feels and functions just like your natural teeth.
Each bridge is individually crafted in our in-house specialist laboratory using high-quality porcelain or ceramic. The shade, contour and translucency are carefully selected to match your surrounding teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Bridges

Are dental bridges in London suitable for me?

Dental bridges are an excellent solution for patients who are missing one or more teeth and have healthy neighbouring teeth to anchor the bridge. If you have a gap in your smile that is affecting your confidence, your bite, or your ability to chew comfortably, a bridge may be the most appropriate way to restore it. A consultation with Dr Reza Eslami will confirm the best course of treatment for your specific situation.

How long do dental bridges last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, a well-fitted porcelain or ceramic dental bridge can last 10–15 years or more. The longevity of your bridge will depend on the health of the supporting teeth, your bite, and how well you maintain your oral hygiene at home.

Is the bridge procedure painful?

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel no discomfort during treatment. Some patients experience mild sensitivity around the prepared teeth in the days following tooth preparation, but this settles quickly. Our team will ensure you are completely comfortable at every stage.

Will my dental bridge look natural?

Yes. Each bridge is individually crafted and shade-matched by our specialist laboratory to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth. Modern porcelain and ceramic materials closely replicate the natural colour and translucency of tooth enamel, ensuring a completely natural-looking result.

How long does dental bridge treatment take?

The full bridge process typically requires two to three appointments over a period of two to three weeks — one for preparation and impressions, and one for fitting the permanent bridge. Your temporary bridge will keep your smile intact between visits.

What is the difference between a dental bridge and a dental implant?

A dental implant replaces the missing tooth root with a titanium fixture placed directly into the jawbone, whereas a dental bridge is supported by the natural teeth on either side of the gap. Implants do not require the preparation of neighbouring teeth and are generally considered the gold standard for single tooth replacement, but bridges remain a highly effective and clinically proven alternative for many patients.

Can a dental bridge replace more than one tooth?

Yes. A bridge can be used to replace a short span of consecutive missing teeth. The number of teeth that can be replaced will depend on the strength and condition of the supporting teeth and the overall clinical assessment. Your dentist will advise on the most appropriate solution during your consultation.

Do dental bridges require special care?

Bridgework should be cared for with twice-daily brushing and regular flossing — paying particular attention to cleaning beneath the bridge using interdental brushes or a floss threader. Regular hygienist visits and check-ups are recommended to keep the supporting teeth and gums in excellent health, ensuring your bridge remains secure and long-lasting.
